Intel Ships 100 Million Atom CPUs in Three Years

Not bad for three years of availability.

There was a time, in the height of the netbook craze, when Intel’s Atom processor seemed to be in every single small computer that hit the market. Since then, the company’s seen some stiff competition from the likes of AMD, Nvidia and ARM, but that hasn’t stopped the steady shipment of Atoms.
Intel is this week celebrating a milestone for the Atom processor. The company today spent part of its Computex keynote wishing Atom a happy birthday (it’s three years old this year) and revealed that to date, the company has shipped a whopping one hundred million Atom CPUs.

Hackers Target Lockheed Martin with 'Significant Attack'

Lockheed Martin this past weekend confirmed that it had been the target of a ‘significant’ cyber attack launched earlier in the month.

If nothing else, the disastrous breach suffered by Sony has highlighted the need for companies to take network security seriously. Another incident, which occurred earlier this month and involved the United States’ largest defense contractor, is driving that same point home once again.

New Windows for Tablets to be Shown This Week

Will it use a variant of Windows Phone 7?
According to Bloomberg sources, Microsoft this week will be previewing a version of Windows that is optimized for tablet devices.
The timing this week seems appropriate, as it will coincide with the All Things D in California as well as Computex in Taiwan. With the inevitable onslaught of new tablet designs to debut at the Taipei computer show, it is due time for Microsoft to show its answer to Apple's iOS and Google's Android Honeycomb.

Asus Teases Uber Skinny Eee PC and Tablet Phone

Asus is planning a big week for Computex 2011.
It’s been a long time since we saw the first Eee PC, and to say the brand has changed a lot would be an understatement. Between all the Eee Slates and Eee Pad Transformers, you'd be forgiven for forgetting about the original Eee PC netbook. However, Asus hasn’t forgotten about the very first Eee PC. In fact, the company is planning a new Eee PC, among other things, and it’ll unveil it next month.

With Computex Taipei nearly upon us (don't forget, our coverage starts next week), Asus has set about whipping fans into a frenzy about what it plans to announce at the tradeshow. Using its Facebook page as a platform for teasing, the company has been posting images all week and dropping hints about what it will have on hand in Taiwan.
First up is what looks like a tablet with the tagline, “Break the Rules: Pad or Phone?” It definitely looks like a tablet, but another posting points towards three additional photos of the device (on Techinstyle) and asks," “Hmmm tablets with bumps... is it pregnant??" Could we be looking at a phone with a larger, tablet dock? We could see this working if the phone clipped in to the back of the tablet...
