There won’t be a single person using online services who does not like to have free storage. Google knows that trend all too well and consequently increased the size of storage being provided by Gmail, Google Drive and Google+ by 3, from 5 GB to 15 GB.
The changes will be gradual and will be transferred over to all users within the next weeks. It is worth mentioning here that the increased space is not for only a single service but will be shared between all the Google services a customer is using like Google Drive and Gmail. Even with that limitation, Google is way ahead of its competitors iCloud and Amazon Cloud Drive which offer 5 GB while Dropbox gives only 2 GB. Even though a similar service from MediaFire offers 10 GB of free storage, but the free tier includes ads.
