USB Stick Scans Your PC for Porn

In case you forgot where you stored them.

For those of us who have older kids surfing the Internet, the Porn Detection Stick (PDS) could certainly be a handy tool. Developed by Paraben, this $100 thumb drive scanning device will dig through your hard drive and uncover currently stored images--or previously deleted for that matter--related to pornographic imagery.
"The Porn Detection Stick uses a complex series of algorithms to analyze flesh tones, shapes and curvatures, face detection, body part separation, and more to alert you to images likely to contain pornographic material," said Proof Pronto, a re-seller of the USB device.
Or it could just do a system wide search for *.JPG, etc.
Using Windows-compatible image detection software, the PDS will scan around 70,000 images in less than two hours. The device cannot detect pornographic videos, nor can it can scan images on the Internet. Nevertheless, Paraben promises less than 1-percent false positives on images found locally on the drive.

PTCL is Going to Double the DSL Speeds: Again

It seems like PTCL is going to double the DSL speeds of broadband customers very soon, most likely with in month or two, at most – same like it did last year. According to news the existing packages will be doubled as
  • 1 mbps to 2mbps
  • 2 mbps to 4mbps
  • 4 mbps to 8 mbps
According to PTCL representative and feedback of different users PTCL is testing these double speeds on randomly selected subscribers from different areas of country. These users will be downgraded after the testing period ends to their original speeds and will be upgraded after official announcement, which is most likely to be on 23rd march, but can be delayed as no final date has been announced yet.
The up gradation process may take several months according to the size of network. Though PTCL is using is ADSL2+ which supports up to 24mbps but at same time there are many subscribers on Copper media, which supports up to 4 mbps at most (that too with distortion).
We hope that student package users will also get this upgrade and can enjoy higher speeds at discounted rates as recently PTCL discontinued all student packages above 1mbps.
We will keep you informed on this, you can also share your experience in comments if you got this test up gradation.
No official words on the situation yet.

Apple Sues HTC Over 'Stolen Patented Inventions

Apple going after HTC for its phones, claiming that they're rip offs of the iPhone.
Up until now, we thought that Apple's iPhone was coexisting decently with many leading HTC handsets – many of them powered by Google's Android OS. Today we find out through court filings that Apple is launching a considerable lawsuit against HTC for infringing 20 patents "related to the iPhone's user interface, underlying architecture, and hardware."
Apple this morning fired out a very short press releaseannouncing the litigation. In it, Steve Jobs said, "We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it."
Jobs continued, "We've decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours."
Engadget has clippings from over 700 pages of exhibits submitted to the District Court by Apple. Interestingly, Apple also names some of HTC's Windows Mobile-based phones, but refers to those as "DSP Products." On the other hand, the other devices were named specifically as Android.
