Apple to Reveal iPhone OS 4.0 This Week

Apple will be offering a sneak peak into iPhone OS 4.0 on Thursday.
Monday Apple told industry analysts and journalists that an iPhone OS 4.0 event is scheduled to take place on April 8th at 10am PST / 1PM EST. The company plans to offer a "sneak peak " into the next generation of iPhone OS software, however the announcement is somewhat surprising given that Apple is still riding the iPad hype after a successful launch over the weekend
So what's in this next release? That info remains unclear, however we've mentioned in the past that OS 4.0 may incorporate device multitasking. This may not be a true implementation of the term, but rather mimics the Android OS by leaving services running in the background: users can close a chat client window but still remain "connected" to the chat network.
Other rumors of new OS 4.0 features include a global inbox, home screen contacts, and a possible GPS navigator. Of course, all this is mere speculation until Thursday's big reveal to the press. We'll be real surprised if Apple doesn't reveal Netflix for OS 4.0 later this week.

Intel vs AMD: Which Would Zombot Use for Brains?

Don't worry, your ARM-based mobile device will be safe from the brain-eating zombots.
While Judgement Day came and went on August 29, 1997 and there was no uprising of the machines, that doesn't mean that it might not still happen. If it's not just sentient computers that we're worried about, there could always be a zombie apocalypse. While I feel fairly well armed to deal with zombies after watching Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead and playing lots of Dead Rising, I'm not sure what I would do in a Zombot Apocalypse.
Thankfully, it seems that Zombots might not know what to do either – at least not without consulting our latest CPU benchmarks.

Buying iPad in Pakistan

Sleek iPad is on sale primarily in United States – but tech enthusiast from Pakistan are already looking for ways to get the device in hands, locally.
When inquired, Apple’s authorized distributors in Pakistan are not giving out any estimated date for iPad’s sale.  Unlike their earlier claims, Media Center PK is not very confident for iPad’s arrival on their stores. iRafflesPakmac – no signs of iPad there too.
Online stores, homeshopping.pk and belisctity.com are left the only options for masses to get an iPad.
Homeshopping.PK is already delivering iPads, that’s quite amazing actually. When inquired they said they just got iPads today and are delivering to those who had pre-ordered the devices.
Those who will order iPads today or onwards will get their deliveries by 20th of April, 2010.
They have all three variants of iPad, as following
  • iPad 16 GB – Rs. 64,990
  • iPad 32 GB – Rs. 72,990
  • iPad 64 GB – Rs. 84,990

Two Early iPad Problems: Weak Wi-Fi, Overheating

Could the iPad be plagued with first-generation design woes?

A first generation product is rarely without flaws. While it may represent the most bleeding edge of a new technology, it often comes at the price of having several rough edges that are usually smoothed out in future iterations of that product.
While it may be too early to say for sure what the flaws are with the new iPad (aside from the omissions of certain features such as a webcam), early reports are pointing to problems with the Wi-Fi and potential sensitivity to heat.
Users of the iPad are reporting that the wireless signal reported by the tablet is weaker or less reliable than other products in the same vicinity. Several stories from the web, including those from TUAWAppleInsider, and TechCrunchmention personal experience and other forum posts detailing Wi-Fi woes. One theory is that the aluminum back casing is blocking too much of the signal, or that it's a software issue.
Another problem cropped up through use from the masses is reports of overheating, forcing the iPad to lock up with a temperature warning. As mentioned in stories from MacNN andCNet, users from California, Texas and New York report that the iPad got warm enough that the screen displayed a warning icon along with the message, "iPad needs to cool down before you can use it."
One user put his iPad in the fridge for a short while to return the tablet back to the mood needed for operation. While we're not yet sure of what temperatures the iPads were used but, Apple lists operating temperatures of the iPad at 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C), which could easily be exceeded if exposed to sunlight for a length of time.
