Google reveals schedule for I/O, there will be just one keynote this time

We eagerly await each Google I/O as it usually brings some exciting new development for Android and Google’s other projects. Except this year things will probably be different – the schedule is out and it shows that the keynotes that usually span two days have been cut down to a single 3 hour session.
Last year at Google I/O was announced along with Google Glass and the ill fated Nexus Q.
With Glass launching recently, we guess it will be part of the keynote. But we doubt Google will cram in a groundbreaking phone like the rumored Motorola X in what time remains.
Will we at least see a new version of Android? And if yes, how significant will it be – Android 4.2 brought some cool improvements over 4.1 but it’s still labeled Jelly Bean as the changes weren’t that big.
We’ll have our answer in a couple of weeks – the Google I/O keynote starts at 9am on May 15.

Unannounced Samsung Galaxy Camera GN120 gets Bluetooth certificate, said to have phone functionality

The Samsung Galaxy Camera is so far unique in Samsung’s lineup and quite a rare beast in general – an Android-powered camera (especially if you don’t count the once that get announced but never make it to the market). It may not be lonely for long though, the Bluetooth SIG has certified a Samsung GN120 Galaxy Camera device.
The current Galaxy Camera has two versions – GC100 with mobile connectivity and the GC110, which is Wi-Fi only. Notice it’s GC, while the new device is GN. Samsung does have a trademark for Galaxy NX (NX is the company‘s line of mirror less interchangeable-lens cameras), but this device is explicitly listed as “Galaxy Camera”.
Even more interesting is that the Device Type field in the Bluetooth filing describes the GN120 Galaxy Camera as a phone. Both the GC100 and GC110 are listed as “camera”, so the differentiating factor isn’t the presence or absence of mobile connectivity. Perhaps we are about to see the first call-enabled camera from Samsung in the coming months?
Unfortunately the Bluetooth certification doesn’t tell us much besides that the device packs Bluetooth 4.0.

Facebook gathers $1.47 billion revenue in 1Q13, 30% from Mobile Ads

The social networking giant, Facebook, unveiled its results for the first quarter of 2013 and it sees an increase of 38 percent in revenue this quarter. However the most interesting aspect is the 30 percent contribution of mobile advertising.
The social media giant reported a revenue of $1.46 billion this quarter as compared to $1.06 billion in the same quarter last year. The revenue even surpassed the expectations of analysts at the Wall Street who had charted to be $1.44 billion this quarter.
Income in this quarter amounted to $219 million, or 9 cents per share, up from $205 million, or 9 cents per share, in the same period a year ago, when it was still private. Excluding special items, mainly related to stock compensation expenses, Facebook earned 12 cents per share, matching the average of analyst expectations, according to FactSet.
Even though investor were quite worried about Facebook’s ability to fare in mobile advertising since before its initial public offering in May 2012, the company reported that its mobile advertising revenue was 30 percent of its total ad revenue in the first quarter, amounting to $375 million. This was a 23 percent increase from $306 million, in the fourth quarter of 2012. Facebook started disclosing revenues from mobile advertisement in the third quarter last year which was 14 percent, or $153 million.
