MSI Shows Off 10-inch Android Tablet with Tegra 2

It's all about the Pads up in here.
MSI is following in the footsteps of both Apple and Asus and releasing it's own Pad tablet. Finding their homes under the WindPad moniker are not one but two 10-inch tablets from MSI. The first, the WindPad 100, is the one MSI focused on during its press conference at Computex.

The WindPad 100 is a Windows 7 Home Premium tablet that runs on Intel's Z530 Atom processor (1.66GHz). It boasts 2GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD, a resolution of 1024x600 and a custom UI sitting on top of Windows 7. Portswise you're looking at 2 x USB and HDMI. There'll also be a Webcam, which we assume will be of the same standard seen on most netbooks.
Rather unlike the Asus Eee Pads, which won't be available until 2011, the WindPad will go on sale 'later this year,' for $499.

ARM Will Support Google TV

Intel might be providing the chips for Google's Google TV televisions and Logitech's standalone boxes but it's not the only company prepping for Google TV.

Computex is in full swing and ARM Holdings was one of the first companies out the gate with a press conference on day 0. The company briefly mentioned Eagle, which was shown above the current generation Cortex-A9. ARM President, Tudor Brown, didn't go into details about the new chip, deferring questions with a promise of an announcement "at a later date" but he did mention that it would provide better performance.
However, Eagle was not the only interesting thing to come out of Tudor's speech. When asked by an audience member if the company plans to support Google TV, Tudor said it was in the works and continued on to say that with ARM's recent support for both Flash and Google's Chrome browser, they plan to optimize for the TV-based operating system.
Google TV was announced by Google at the search giant's I/O conference earlier this month. No word on price just yet but the hardware (TVs, standalone boxes, Blu-ray players and more) is expected to go on sale in the fall.

Samsung Launching 18-inch USB Monitor for 2011

How many monitors is too many?
A lot of people have let notebooks take the place of their regular, desktop PCs. If you need a full size keyboard or monitor, you can always add externals for when you're at home. However, those of us who like to work on more than one monitor are kind of stuck as the majority of laptops only have one VGA port.
A new offering from Samsung expected to hit next year could be the answer all of us multi-monitor enthusiasts are looking for. We've seen USB displays before but never one as big as this. Samsung is displaying 18.5-inches of USB-only LCD (1,366x768, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 250 cd/m² maximum brightness and LED backlit illumination) at Computex and we're suitably impressed. Especially with the fact that power consumption measures in at just 6.5W.
Of course, how many of these you use depends on how many USB ports you have and one of these displays will take up two right off the bat. However, if the shortage of ports is your only problem, there's no shortage of USB hubs and adapters on the market. No word on price yet but we should know more when the 2011 release date draws a little bit closer.

Classic Nintendo Games in Stop-Motion Animation

A really cool project with classic Nintendo characters.

If you've played Super Mario Bros. Crossover, you're probably filled with nostalgia. Perhaps that's the same feeling that YouTuber "bornforthis43" felt that compelled him/her to make this stop-motion animation that's completely inspired by classic Nintendo games.
As Urlesque notes, the three-minute video (that took 120 hours of work to make) is comprised of the following inspirations and materials:
  • Kirby's Adventure - with gummy candy
  • Contra - with Legos
  • The Legend of Zelda - with twigs and construction paper
  • Metroid - with iPhone Samus
  • Mega Man 2 - with Legos and construction paper
  • Super Mario Bros. - with vegetables
