Unhappy AT&T Customer Shoots AT&T Employee

An AT&T customer yesterday entered a New York store and shot one employee before being shot dead by an off-duty police officer who happened to be in the store.

Abraham Dickan, 79, was a very unhappy AT&T customer. Dickan had reportedly been abusive and angry toward employees at the New York Mills store on several occasions before. He had even had police reports filed against him for brandished weapons at the staff there, though Lt. Troy Little says he had no priors.
Yesterday, Mr. Dickan entered the store with a .357 magnum in his hand, and a list containing the names of six employees he intended to shoot. The senior citizen shot at the first AT&T worker, Seth Turk, but was gunned down by an off-duty police officer. WKTV reports that Rome Police Officer Donald J. Moore saw and heard the gun and shot at Dickan right away.
Dickan was killed by Officer Moore's shots but Seth survived and was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica for surgery, where he remained Thursday evening in critical condition.
A letter was found on Dickan's person, which apparently showed he was upset by previous incidents at the store. He had been banned from the store (presumably after he waved a handgun around the first time), but no court order had been filed to keep him off the premises.

Warner Bros. Accused of Pirating Anti-Pirating Tech

A Hollywood studio notorious for pursuing movie pirates is accused of pirating. The irony!
Now here's an ironic twist: a major Hollywood studio--one of many that have diligently pursued movie pirates for years under the MPAA's wing--is now accused of piracy. A complaint (pdf) filed in the court system states that Warner Bros. stole an anti-piracy technology patent from German company Medien Patent Verwaltung (MPV). The lawsuit also lists Technicolor and Deluxe in New York and Germany, and says that all three studios are infringing on patent 7,187,633 called "Motion Picture and Anti-Piracy Coding."

Microsoft: That's OK, We Still Make More Profits

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer not rattled by Apple's overtake.

This week's stock market showed that Apple had finally climbed over Microsoft to become the world's largest tech company in terms of market capitalization. While that sort of thing could worry Microsoft, CEO Steve Ballmer isn't worried at all.
"I will make more profits and certainly there is no technology company in the planet which is as profitable as we are," Ballmer said to the Wall Street Journal. "Stock markets will take care of the rest."
"We are executing very well," he said. "That's going to lead to great products and great success."
Now there's a rumor that Steve Ballmer will be joining his Steve-counterpart at Apple's WWDC on June 7 for some sort of announcement. Could there be enough room on the stage for such a bold, Steve duet?Apparently not.

NED Students Make Fuel-Efficient Car

WinMark is a group of 12 engineering students, who have made a car locally in Pakistan that can cover 80 Kilometers per liter.
WinMark is participating in Shell Eco-Marathon, the 25th global competition which will be held first time in Asia (Malaysia) in July 2010.
Earlier we have discussed PakWheelers, students from NUST and about their participation with hybrid car in Shell Eco Marathon for prototype category, here we come with another team of auto enthusiasts from NED University of Engineering & Technology.
WinMark team has showcased their car at Karachi which is complete and is ready to race in the marathon. They will be competing with world’s top notch cars in urban category.
For Urban category a car is supposed to have 4 tires along with all basic auto fundamentals unlike prototype cars, which can have even 3 tires or even 2 and least possible components to secure highest level of mileage per liter.
About Rs 1.4 million will be the estimated cost of the project, including car development cost (Rs 5 lac), travelling (Rs 4 lac), transportation (Rs 3.5 lac) and accommodation and miscellaneous (Rs 1.5 lac).
